Happy Father's Day

June 2018
By Emily J. Miranda

Dear Fathers,

If you have son or daughter, then I write this to you–

To inspire, to encourage, to carry you through

Whether you work all day, or slave all night,

If you’re doing it for family, then your heart’s in the right,

When you come home from your labors,

Don’t miss the moments to love,

Because to your children you’re more than just ‘dad’,

To them you’re a hero, a one-of-a-kind,

Their father who loves them and gives them your time.

As children we think you’re invincible men,

The strong sort of fellows with gentle hands,

Yet, we fail to realize the hardships you face,

The wear and the stress of working too late,

The times when you’re silent to contemplate–

Contemplate if the sacrifices are worth all the pain,

Of giving up dreams to continue to strain,

So that us children, your family, can get through each day,

Each day in a home with a roof overhead,

Each night falling sleepy in our cozy bed,

Each morning waking up to food on the table,

Each evening listening to a bedtime fable.

And I’ll tell you right now,

All you do is well worth it.

Your love for your children and all that you do,

The struggles you face and the days you slave through,

The stresses of life and your sacrifice,

The lessons you share—

All this shows that you care.

On those days you think to give up,

I beg, pick yourself up,

Because your children, they love you,

And one day they’ll see,

That all you ever did,

“Dad, you did it for me.”

All My Love to You Fathers,

A Grateful Daughter

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galations 6:9
